FULL MOON DRUMMING
From ancient time people have gathered under the Full Moon
to celebrate with music and dance. Dancers dance in the circle
created by the drummers. Drums tune to the natural rhythms,
dancers move to the beat and magical energies flow. Discord
is transformed into harmony through the rhythm of the drums.
Drum circles heal body, mind, and soul. Most cities have a space,
center square or crossroads good for celebration. Charlotte’s prime
center is Trade & Tryon and the Full Moon is a great time to be there.
Group drum rhythm is a carrier wave for hopes and wishes. This is
a way to bring dreams to life. Drumming at the Square helps energize
community and free Charlotte’s soul.
Mythologies of all cultures speak of creation and re-creation through
sound. Every new cycle begins with a new sound vibration that emerges
through the people as a whole. Tolkien made story of this in his writing:
“Typically, people gather to drum in drum ‘circles’ with others from
the surrounding community. The drum circle offers equality because
there is no head or tail. It includes people of all ages. The objective is
to share rhythm and get in tune with each other and themselves. To
form a group consciousness. To entrain and resonate. By entrainment,
I mean that a new voice, a collective voice, emerges from the group
as they drum together.” ~ Mickey Hart, The Grateful Dead
Thunder on the mountain, and there’s fires on the Moon
Feel like my soul is beginning to expand
Look into my heart and you will understand
Thunder on the mountain, rollin’ like a Drum…
– Bob Dylan, Prophecy
